Finding Musical Influences
Sunday, July 9th, 2006Being a musician can get frustrating sometimes. Sometimes you just can’t come up with any ideas. Sometimes you feel like you’re ‘losing it’. These feelings may be because you don’t have many influences.
I find that when I feel like I’m starting to loose motivation to play guitar, and that I’m losing my influences I try to listen to different musicians. Not only that, I try to listen to different types of music. The music I mostly listen to is rock/metal type music, but lately I have been exploring different genres and styles of music. Such as flamenco, jazz fusion, and classical.
In case you feel you’re starting to lose interest here are some great influences of mine that I suggest you check out:
John Petrucci
Jordan Rudess
Paul Gilbert
Al Di Meola
Joe Satriani
Steve Vai
Tony MacAlpine
Daniel Gildenlow
Frank Gambale
Marty Friedman
Dave Mustaine
and many more…
Trust me once you start listening (also watching helps a lot) to new musicians you will see an instant boost in motivation
