Do You Have A Guitar Practice Schedule?

July 27th, 2006

If you want to be a great guitarist then it will take a lot of discipline. This discipline requires creating a practice schedule. If you don’t discipline yourself then you’ll just practice “whenever you feel like it”. That could mean 5 hours a day or it could mean 5 hours a week. When you have a schedule then you get a lot more practice time in.

When I say schedule, I mean seperating the different aspects of guitar into different sections. Not just play for 1 hour everyday from 5-6. If you just do that then you will sit there, and think “What do I practice now?”. You should have a lot of material that you can cover.

I go into this into more detail in my mini-course. You can sign up for it here:

While My Guitar Gently Weeps

July 22nd, 2006

For those of you who don’t know who Yellow Matter Custard is they are a group of very talented musicians doing a Beatles tribute band. The band consists of Neal Morse (Spock’s Beard, Neal Morse), Paul Gilbert (Mr. Big, Racer X), Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater), and Matt Bissonette (Joe Satriani). Here’s a video of them performing the Beatles song “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”

Finding Musical Influences

July 9th, 2006

Being a musician can get frustrating sometimes. Sometimes you just can’t come up with any ideas. Sometimes you feel like you’re ‘losing it’. These feelings may be because you don’t have many influences.

I find that when I feel like I’m starting to loose motivation to play guitar, and that I’m losing my influences I try to listen to different musicians. Not only that, I try to listen to different types of music. The music I mostly listen to is rock/metal type music, but lately I have been exploring different genres and styles of music. Such as flamenco, jazz fusion, and classical.

In case you feel you’re starting to lose interest here are some great influences of mine that I suggest you check out:

John Petrucci
Jordan Rudess
Paul Gilbert
Al Di Meola
Joe Satriani
Steve Vai
Tony MacAlpine
Daniel Gildenlow
Frank Gambale
Marty Friedman
Dave Mustaine
and many more…

Trust me once you start listening (also watching helps a lot) to new musicians you will see an instant boost in motivation

The Pod XT Project Part 2 is now online!

It covers the basics of the Pod XT. What the features are, and basically what all the buttons do. The Pod XT can look overwhelming, but once you get the hang of it, it’s very simple. Also, a lot of fun.
